This page just started, under construction, value your input.</center>

The goal and/or purpose of this wiki-page is to hopefully increase the reading of the writers' works here on Elftown. Many writers write great works, but sadly, their works are seldom read, thus enjoyed and appreciated. Will there be an award? Of course! The next section below explains what the rewarding will be.

Just playing around with some badge design ideas... Thus far:

When ET's badges are classified as 'shiny', I look at them, but I don't think they are 'shiny'. So when I make badges, I like to make them so they really do appear 'shiny'. lol

These are just preliminary (test) examples:

First stage of each colour:
<img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-gold_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-silver_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-bronze_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-blue_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-red_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-green_test.png>

Second stage of each colour:
<img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-gold-topstar_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-silver-topstar_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-bronze-topstar_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-blue-topstar_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-red-topstar_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-green-topstar_test.png>

Third stage of each colour:
<img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-gold-startrio_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-silver-startrio_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-bronze-startrio_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-blue-startrio_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-red-startrio_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-green-startrio_test.png>

Mega Star Readers: bronze, silver, gold
<img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-gold-startrioshield_test.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-silver-startrioshield_test.pn.png><img:stuff/aj/119747/StarReader-bronze-startrioshield_test.pn.png>

I'm not happy with the text, "Lectores" (Spanish for readers). I think I will close the eye for the 'drop shadow' layer. ....And I need 2 different sets: one set for poetry and one set for prose, I think? Maybe I'll add criss-crossed swords with the last three for an even greater badge "to read for". hehe

2009-03-09 [Nocturnaliss]: I'll be curious to see how this works. Also, what are you supposed to do when you've read something by a fellow Elftowner ? Do only writings by fellow Wiki members count ? I think, so far, I've read one story by a fellow Wiki-er... so what would I have to do to know my current star level ?

2009-03-10 [Artsieladie]: Good questions/points. This is what we have to work out I guess. I think the goal here should be to concentrate on reading the writings of Elftowners. If they are a member and they write, the "Star Readers" read them, comment on what they read and then they get credited (This is just a very basic outline of thoughts.) For readings outside of Elftown, we have Reviews for this purpose. -Or- am I missing entirely what you are saying? This wouldn't surprise me, because I've got something else weighing heavily on my mind at the moment. :P

2009-03-10 [Nocturnaliss]: I think that answers me. So whether you read something by someone on Writers Rock, or something by a fellow non-member Elftowner, you get credited for it ? Just making sure I'm getting it right XD. I do think it might be a nice incentive to award more credit for reading something by a fellow Wiki-member, because that would give incentive to more writers to join it :3

So there's still the matter of how to credit people. Hmm. I remember mentioning people could leave a comment on writings that would serve as proof they have read it (and not just the 'I read it!' type of comment, but something pertaining to the prose/poetry). Otheriwse, I dunno how to know who's read what XD

2009-03-10 [Nocturnaliss]: Also, as for the badges: my god that's shiny. XD I like 'em! If you don't like the Spanish, how about breaking tradition and picking another language ? I can only tell you the translation for languages I know, which'd make lectores into 'Lecteurs' in French and 'Lezers' in Dutch... and I wish I knew the Latin translation, because that might look cool for prose/poetry badges << but that's me.

I do have to crit just a little: at first, I didn't notice the difference between the three first levels of reading. Had to reaaaaaally look up close to notice those tiny little star additions. Perhaps altering the star on the badge itself might be a good idea to make it more visible ? Just a thought, maybe I'll be the only one not seeing the lil stars XD

Also: what is the meaning of all the colours ? I imagine you'll mention that eventually, but, y'know... curious. XD

2009-03-10 [Artsieladie]: *grins* My! A lot to respond to! Great, though! I'm not complaining at all. ;)

I see your point about reading members' works that have joined here and crediting a bit more to encourage more to join. I like the idea! :)

Yeah, we would have to decide exactly what would constitute enough proof that they in fact read what they claim they have. We'll have to put our thinking caps on... *looks around for my holey one* hehe ... and see what would be a good criteria to follow, some basic outline of what would be accepted? Hmm.. I'll have to think a bit on this. I've got a few remnants of ideas at present, but this is it. (Comment on plot, characters, interest capture ability?) ;P

I don't mind the language and it does go along with Elftown's official badges. It's that the text can't be readily or clearly read the way it is. So, I need to work on the sharpness of the text. Actually, I thought the same about the little stars. So, I think I will make them a bit larger. As far as colours, I was thinking, the readers would start off with Stage #1 - green star, then go to Stage #2 - green star, and then on to Stage #3 - green star. From the green star, they would move up to the red star and go through the same stages until they would arrive at the blue star stage and go through the stages of the blue star and then would enter the bronze, then get to the silver, and finally to the gold. When they get to the "Mega Star Readers" level, the first would be the bronze, then the silver, and finally the gold. We would have to decide how many reads they would need to do for each stage, though, and I think less prose requirements than poetry, because generally prose writings are lengthier than poetic writings.

I was also thinking that each Star Reader could set up/have their own "Star Reader" wiki-page. Example: [Star Reader - Nocturnaliss@wiki] This way they can just add their Star Reader link next to their name and it would be their responsibilty to keep their own page up to date. What do you think?

I am glad you are so interested in this! I appreciate your input. :D

2009-03-13 [Cillamoon]: Would I be able to join your wiki? I mean, that is if you are accepting members...

2009-03-13 [Nocturnaliss]: Mwell, the best way to prove it, in my opinion, is to leave a pointed comment, and not just a 'great story!' or something... because as a writer, that doesn't help you much, either. Perhaps having a reason why you like/dislike the story ? You'd have to read it to be able to answer that well. I'd actually thought about awarding something extra to people who leave useful comments, which could be determined by the writer themselves if they feel a particular comment has been extra helpful ? But I dunno about that XD just a thought.

Well, the shininess diminishes the readability. Maybe a darker shadow around the lettering could help ? As for the colours, y'know what'd be great ? A logic as to why you hop from one colour to the next. Like... rainbow logic, for instance. But that may be just me XD (huge logic freak, beware). It's the thought that, this way, you don't have to check back here to remind yourself of where you stand (unless you have no idea what a rainbow looks like XD). But, feel free to ignore this << XD

I'm thinking less prose requirements than poetry, myself, for the same reason. What is to be figured out is a good amount. Starting off at one prose and... hmm, 3 or 5 poems seems like a good start. But after that... to figure that out, we'd have to know exactly how many levels there are. And set up a standard sheet for the personal Star reader wiki (which is an awesome idea). That way, your own progress'd be extra easy to keep track of :3

2009-03-13 [Nocturnaliss]: [Cillamoon]: check out Elftown's Rocking 'Riters!. I don't think there's any requirement for joining, but you can always ask [Artsieladie] to make extra sure ^^

2009-03-13 [Cillamoon]: Thank you!

2009-03-13 [Nocturnaliss]: You're welcome ^^ we need all the Writers we can find :D 't is the purpose of the Wiki, after all.

2009-04-09 [Cillamoon]: Is it still possible to join this one as well?

2009-04-10 [Nocturnaliss]: You automatically do when you join up Writers Rock... but Artsie hasn't finished figuring this out yet. ... which might never happen as I just noticed she's been banned. O.O wtf.
